Finding your nonprofit by name
The most common way to find your nonprofit based outside the U.S. is by name. This will pull up nonprofits that match the keywords entered in the search.
Finding a nonprofit by keyword(s)
If you are looking for a nonprofit for a particular focus, you can search for that cause.
For example, if you are looking to support nonprofits focused on housing needs, the results page will display nonprofits who have those keywords in their description:
Narrowing your search further
You can narrow your search further by using quotes around your keywords to find an exact match. In this example, the action of "housing needs" (with quotations) will list nonprofits that have that exact phrase in their description on the results page:
Search by city
You can also search for nonprofits by city name. After you change your dropdown country, you can search for any city or town names to pull up nonprofits that are within the community and eligible on Bright Funds.
In this example, we search Munich under the Germany country search:
Can't find your nonprofit?
The Bright Funds database contains nonprofits outside the U.S. that have been vetted by Bright Funds via publicly available charity databases in each country in the list above.
The Bright Funds team continues to work on including additional countries and their local charity registration agencies.
If your charity is registered within any of the local country charity databases listed above, please send their name, website and charity ID (if available) to support@brightfunds.org, and our team can help confirm their eligibility.
Can you add my nonprofit if their country is not listed?
At this time, we are not able to add individual nonprofits. The team is working on reviewing all publicly available charity databases by country in order to include a more comprehensive list of charities available within any country. As long as your nonprofit is registered as a charity with the proper agencies within their country, they may be eligible for Bright Funds in the future.
Tax deductibility for countries outside the US
All donations made through the Bright Funds platform are made directly to Bright Funds Foundation, a U.S. public charity (EIN 46-2109112), then distributed to global nonprofits. As a result, all donors will receive a donation receipt from a U.S. charity (even if the donation is directed to a nonprofit outside of the U.S.).
Donors will receive that receipt in their email immediately upon making the donation, and can access a full donation summary on their Bright Funds My Donations page. Tax-deductibility of the donation will depend upon the laws of the country in which the donor resides.
